Body of a female found near search for missing 16-year-old Alexandria Chery

POLK COUNTY, Fla. —A decomposed body of a female has been found near the search area for missing 16-year-old Orange County girl Alexandria Chery.

According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, an unidentified, decomposed body was found by a maintenance worker about 9:30 a.m. on State Road 532 between ChampionsGate and the Reunion Resort on Friday .

The body was found 30 to 40 feet from the road, but it is not known how long it was there or how badly it was decomposed.

Deputies have not released the possible age or race of the deceased person.

The medical examiner arrived at the scene about 4 p.m. to remove the body, and deputies sent Chery’s dental records for comparison.

Neighbors who live minutes from where the body was found couldn’t believe it.

“Something like this, you know, in this neighborhood, in this county, it’s unheard of for something like this to happen,” said Lawrence Matos.

Chery hasn’t been seen or heard from since Monday when she went missing from her Hawthorne Groves Boulevard home, and Orange County deputies were focusing their search in the ChampionsGate area of Polk County.

“I know there’s great anticipation. We have not made a positive ID. Again, I want to stress that, our thoughts and prayers are with the Chery family as our investigators are talking with them,” said Orange County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Angelo Nieves.

According to relatives, it was GPS information on Chery’s cellphone that brought authorities to the area near Johna Mine Road.

“The most important thing to us is to preserve evidence and make sure that we hold the individual accountable for this crime,” said Nieves.

Mother’s boyfriend considered prime suspect

Sanel Saint Simon, 43, the longtime boyfriend of Chery’s mother, is the prime suspect in the disappearance. He has been arrested and charged with two misdemeanors, providing false information to a law enforcement officer and attempted destruction of evidence.

According to his arrest affidavit, Saint Simon is accused of cleaning blood spatter in the home and lying to detectives about his whereabouts on the day of Chery’s disappearance.

Deputies said Saint Simon was driving a black Pontiac (image) and are asking anyone who may have seen the vehicle Monday to come forward.

He is being held on $7,500 bail and has two “holds” on him related to his immigration status.

According to a WESH 2 News source, if he was able to afford the bond, then Immigration and Customs Enforcement would get involved.
